Fire destroys camper parked on Santa Rosa street

Fire destroyed a camper parked on Moraga Drive in Santa Rosa early Thursday, but it's not clear what caused the fire or even who owns the vehicle, firefighters said.

Neighbors reported the vehicle on fire around 1:30 a.m., Battalion Chief Jack Piccinini said, and it took firefighters only minutes to control the blaze.

Neighbors said the vehicle had been parked on the street for some time and they had seen a woman coming and going on occasion, but she was not present when firefighters arrived, he said.

The vehicle was a total loss, but there was no other damage other than some scorching on a nearby fence.

Investigators have not yet determined a cause of the fire and they are looking into who owns the vehicle, he said. It was registered in Nevada.
