Bodega Highway was closed for hours Thursday night after a highway line painting truck overturned.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the 60,000-pound truck, owned by a private contractor, was returning to its Sebastopol base around 8:20 p.m. when the driver allowed it to drift off the side of the road. He was unable to bring it back on the roadway and the truck tumbled over on its side into a culvert.

The driver, who police did not identify, was not injured. No charges were filed and the incident appeared to be a simple accident, Officer Kerri Post said.

The truck was loaded with reflective paint, but the tank did not leak, she said. The fuel tank was punctured in the effort to right the heavy truck, she said, but it resulted only in a small leakage.

Because of the small fuel spill and the difficulty of pulling the bulky truck out of the ditch, the highway was closed between Furlong and Jonive roads until around 4 a.m.
