An 18-year-old man suffered major injuries when he was struck by a vehicle Thursday night on Golf Course Drive in front of the Mountain Shadows Plaza shopping center.
Joseph Valinoti was found with trauma to his lower extremities and a possible head injury, the Rohnert Park Public Safety Department said.
He had been crossing the road at an unsignalized crosswalk when he was struck by a 2005 Mazda sedan driven by 19-year-old Blake Basham, Lt. Jeff Taylor said.
Basham's driver's license indicates he is from Colorado. Taylor said he does not know where Basham is currently residing. Sonoma State University's athletics website lists Basham, a freshman, as a member of the school's golf team.
Valinoti was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital shortly after the 10 p.m. incident and was said to have under gone surgery, officials said.
He was in stable condition Friday evening, according to a nursing supervisor.
No additional details were available about the incident, including whether the driver left the scene. The investigation is continuing, after which a decision will be made about whether to file charges against the driver, Taylor said.
