A magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck near The Geysers steamfields moments before midnight Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was centered 4 miles south of Cobb and about 12 miles northeast of Healdsburg, the USGS said.

Minor earthquakes are common in the geothermal steamfield area, though some residents contend water injection and steam extraction activities in the area have heightened seismic activity.
