Lake County driver, passenger hurt in suspected DUI crash

A Lake County driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol crashed a car, causing injuries to himself and a passenger, the California Highway Patrol reported.

At about 2:10 a.m. Daniel Edward Poe, 28 of Nice, drove a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix off the south shoulder of route 20 and the car overturned. Poe sustained moderate injuries and passenger Nicole Ventura, 31 of Nice, suffered major injuries.

The cause is still under investigation, but alcohol appeared to be a factor, CHP officers said in a news release. The driver and passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
