Rohnert Park finance chief leaving for new job

Rohnert Park's finance director is stepping down to take another job, the second time in two years the key city department has lost its top official.

Cathy Orme's last day will be Sept. 20. She is to take a position as finance director for the Marin County city of Larkspur. Her new boss will be Dan Schwarz, Rohnert Park's interim city manager from 2008 to 2010.

"I think it'll be a nice little change," said Orme, who became finance chief in January 2012 when her predecessor, Sandy Lipitz, resigned, claiming she had been forced out by City Manager Gabe Gonzalez.

Orme, who joined the city as an account manager and has been there almost six years, said there was no similarity between her departure and Lipitz's.

"It's a completely different situation," said Orme. "Gabe has done so much for this city to turn it around and I really thank him for the opportunity and the growth. I have nothing but praise for him and what he's done."

Gonzalez said accounting manager Ana Kwong will be appointed interim finance director while the city recruits a replacement for Orme, who was making $119,263 a year.
