Rohnert Park boy, 2, injured after hit by neighbor's car

A 2-year-old Rohnert Park boy was struck in a cul de sac outside of his house Wednesday night when a neighbor backed out of her driveway, Rohnert Park Public Safety personnel said.

It appeared, at least initially, the youngster escaped major injury, Sgt. Rob Luis said Thursday. Public Safety personnel were unable to follow up on his condition, he said.

The neighbor told authorities she saw the boy playing in a safe location as she prepared to exit her Bernadette Avenue driveway about 5:40 p.m., Luis said. It was unclear how the boy got out into the street after that.

The boy was knocked over and ended up under the car, apparently between the tires, Luis said. He at least suffered abrasions and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, but no further information was available, Luis said.

The incident remained under investigation, but at first glance, "it sounds purely like an accident," he said.
