A Petaluma man apprehended Friday as he attempted to open a bank account using someone else's identification was found to have several altered, stolen checks and a stash of other people's mail in his motel room, along with drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Ryan Anthony Cardenas, 27, was being held without bail Saturday following the evening raid on his room at the Motel 6 in Petaluma and the arrest of a female companion there, authorities said.
Police said there were two arrest warrants for Cardenas out of San Joaquin and San Bernardino counties when he was detained at the Wells Fargo Bank in Petaluma on Friday afternoon. Police later went to his motel room and seized additional evidence.
Cardenas was booked into jail on suspicion of burglary, forgery, identity theft, conspiracy, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance, police said.
His companion, Stephanie Nicole Silveira, 32, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and receipt of stolen property. She was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail, jail personnel said.
Police said neither suspect has a permanent address.
