A head-on crash on rural Highway 20 near Lake Mendocino Monday morning sent two people to hospitals with major injuries and temporarily closed the highway, according to the CHP.

The crash involved a Chevrolet sedan and a Caltrans truck, said CHP Officer Steve Krul.

They collided on the highway near Marina Drive, about three miles east of Highway 101 in Mendocino County.

One person apparently was flown for medical help and another was taken by ambulance, Krul said.

The two-lane highway, which connects Mendocino and Lake counties, was closed for about an hour near the crash site. Officers then allowed one-way, controlled traffic for a few hours.

The CHP reported traffic on Highway 20 was backed up at about 10:40 a.m., but by the noon hour traffic was flowing smoothly.

Further details regarding the crash weren't available from the CHP.
