Clashes between law enforcement and protesters over the Willits bypass continued Friday, with one protester receiving a citation.
Atlas Tree Service, a contractor for Caltrans, was clearing brush when several protesters interrupted to question the contractor's movements.
The contractors stopped machinery because the protesters' movements were placing them at risk, said Phil Frisbie, a Mendocino County Caltrans official. Frisbie said Caltrans had completed required surveys of the area and received approval from the Department of Fish and Wildlife to begin work at the site.
The Highway Patrol was called to the scene and cited one of the protesters for trespassing at a construction zone, said Sara Grusky, a leader of the group Save Our Little Lake Valley.
Grusky said Friday's events scuttled any possibility for negotiations between Caltrans and protesters.
