Lake County man suspect in two 2012 arson fires

A 23-year-old Lake County man was arrested Wednesday in connection with two arson fires last summer in the Cow Mountain area of Mendocino County, a Cal Fire official said.

Kevin Louis Benback-Calhoun of Clearlake is suspected of setting two wildland fires that burned a total of 400 acres in June and July of last year, fire prevention specialist Julie Cooley said.

Cal Fire investigator Shawn Zimmermaker, who was involved in the year-long investigation, made the arrest.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office, Clearlake police and CHP's Ukiah Office assisted in the investigation.

Cooley said she had no details on how the case against Benback-Calhoun was made.

He was held Wednesday at the Lake County Jail on bail of $50,000.
