An asphalt spill that closed a lane of traffic on Highway 101 through Petaluma on Thursday morning has been cleared from the road, the CHP said.

But the peak commute-hour was seriously slowed by the gravel and asphalt mix spread along about a half-mile of roadway near East Washington Street, authorities said.

The mess was first reported around 6:48 a.m., the CHP said.

The road was fully opened at 8:14 a.m.
