Woman, two children injured in West Dry Creek Road wreck

A Healdsburg woman and two 5-year-old boys were injured Friday morning when the car they were in veered off West Dry Creek Road and over an embankment, the CHP said.

Malia Gomez, 37, later told authorities she'd looked away from the road for a mere second before finding herself in the oncoming lane near Pine Ridge Road, north of Westside Road, the CHP said.

When she swerved back into the southbound lane, she lost control of her Honda Civic and crashed about 35 feet down the embankment, authorities said.

Witnesses put her speed at about 50 mph at the time of the crash, the CHP said.

Gomez and the two boys, her own son and her boyfriend's, were trapped in the wreckage of the car and had to be cut free by firefighters, authorities said.

All three in the car suffered head and facial injuries in the crash and were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment, the CHP said.
