Rain Saturday morning downed power lines and caused a handful of minor accidents across Sonoma County, public safety officials said.
Wires from a fallen power pole lay across Liberty School Road north of Petaluma at 8:30 in the morning. Fire officials asked residents living along the road to remain inside their homes until PG&E crews could perform repairs.
Power lines were also reported down on Wilmington Drive in Petaluma and Furlong Road west of Sebastopol.
"Rain really affects power lines and trees," said Sophia Betts, a supervisor with Redwood Empire Dispatch Communications Authority.
She said that drivers should not try and move downed power lines and should call 911 to report wires in the roadway.
CHP reported a half-dozen minor injury collisions on Sonoma County roads Saturday morning. Acting Sergeant Nenad Gorenec said the season's first rainfall was likely to blame.
"It's slick out there," he said. "Drivers should slow down. It's really dangerous after the first rain."
