A Sebastopol motorcyclist was arrested for suspected reckless driving after reaching speeds in excess of 120 mph on southbound Highway 101 through Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park on Wednesday afternoon, the CHP said.
Daniel Martin, 23, was apprehended after authorities abandoned two brief, earlier pursuits because they had reached such unsafe speeds, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.
A motorcycle officer near Bicentennial Way was the first to spot the speeding motorcycle at 4:05 p.m. but quickly discontinued the pursuit, Sloat said.
Two additional officers picked up the chase but similarly aborted their effort when the motorcyclist exceeded 120 mph, he said.
An officer in Rohnert Park, alerted the suspect was headed that way, was slowing traffic in anticipation of the motorcycle's arrival and finally got the elusive driver to stop as it was weaving through 5 mph traffic, Sloat said.
Martin was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail. He later posted $1,000 bail and was released, jail personnel said.
