Deputies seek suspect after stabbing near schools west of Santa Rosa

Sonoma County sheriff's deputies Wednesday night were looking for the suspect in a stabbing that took place inside a house west of Santa Rosa, across from two schools.

The victim, Alan Evans, 35, was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with wounds to his neck and wrist, and the two schools were briefly locked down while authorities secured the area.

Lt. Steve Brown said Evans suffered stab and slash wounds "all over his body," but was expected to survive. He was undergoing surgery Wednesday evening.

It wasn't clear late Wednesday what the attack was about, Brown said, but it appeared Evans was defending himself.

Detectives were expecting to speak with Evans after surgery.

Several people called 911 to report seeing a bloody man walking on Hall Road around 1:50 p.m.

Evans, who apparently rents a room in the house, told deputies he was injured by a man inside the house, on the southeast corner of Hall and Willowside roads.

The entire attack took place inside the house, Brown said, but Evans walked as far as across the street for some reason.

No weapon had been recovered.

At the time of the incident, the two men were the only people in the house, Brown said. Earlier, a woman and a child had left.
