Ukiah man accused of inflicting 'life threatening' injuries on baby son

A 25-year-old Ukiah man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of inflicting "life-threatening" injuries on his 6-month-old son.

Daniel Camara was booked into Mendocino County Jail following an investigation in which medical specialists confirmed the son's injuries were consistent with physical abuse, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

Camara was arrested on suspicion of assault that resulted in coma because of a brain injury to a child under 8 years old. Bail was set at $500,000.

The child was admitted Friday for treatment of a high fever at Ukiah Valley Medical Center. He later was flown to UC San Francisco Medical Center, where sheriff's officials characterized his injuries as life-threatening.

Sheriff's detectives began investigating after medical personnel located several older injuries that also were consistent with physical abuse. Detectives believe the child had been physically abused on several occasions during the past two months.
