Custody fight leads to pot arrest of Lake County dad

Police responded to a Lakeport ball field for reports of adults arguing over custody of a child and officers arrested the father after finding multiple packages of marijuana in his car, police reported.

Lakeport officers went to the field at about noon Sunday where they found Jason Smith, 33, of Redwood Valley. The man was trying to take custody of his child from Jennifer Foster, the child's mother, police reported.

Officers found marijuana in the center console of Smith's car and in the trunk they found four more packages — all totalling 1,400 grams, police said.

Officers arrested Smith on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale, transporting it and child endangerment.

He was booked into Lake County's Hill Road jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
