Letter of the Day: Rights threatened

Rights threatened

EDITOR: I'm sure this letter will never be printed, but at least I tried.

First they came for the Eighth Amendment (Guantanamo torture). But I said nothing because I never thought I'd be sent to jail.

Then they came for the Sixth Amendment (Gitmo). But I was silent because I wasn't guilty.

Then they came for the Fifth Amendment (drone strikes). But I kept quiet because I wasn't an enemy combatant.

Then they came for the Fourth Amendment (Patriot Act). But I didn't object because I wasn't a terrorist.

Then they came for the Second Amendment (It's happening now). But I said nothing because I wasn't a gun nut.

Finally they came for the First Amendment (2014?). And by then it was too late to say anything at all.
