Man found dead near Fort Bragg identified

The second victim of a double homicide discovered near Fort Bragg last week has been identified as Jim Tat Kong, 51, of San Pablo.

The bodies of Kong and Cindy Bao Chen, 38, of San Francisco, were found Thursday by deputies investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle parked off Highway 20, almost 3 miles east of Fort Bragg, Mendocino County Sheriff's authorities said.

Both had suffered head wounds, but authorities have not disclosed whether they had been shot.

Chen was found in the driver's seat of the van, which was registered in her name, according to Sheriff's Capt. Greg Van Patten. Kong was in the front passenger seat, the Sheriff's Office reported. The vehicle was not readily visible from the highway.

The two had voluntarily gone to Mendocino County, Van Patten said. Their bodies were found on Chen's birthday, he said.

Anyone with information about the double homicide is asked to contact the Sheriff's tip line: (707) 234-2100.
