A man lost part of his arm when the car in which he was riding swerved out of control and slammed into a tree along Highway 101 Saturday night.
Andrew Chang, 29, of San Jose was injured in the 10 p.m. crash off Highway 101 just south of Shiloh Road, CHP Officer Marcus Hawkins said.
Driver Zhang Huijing, 27, of San Jose was heading south in a 2006 Toyota Solara when he came upon a tarp in the road, swerved to avoid it, ran off the road and hit a tree, Hawkins said. The passenger's side hit the tree.
Chang's arm was completely severed around the bicep area, the CHP said. Emergency crews found the arm in the back seat.
CHP officials said they were told at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where Chang was being treated, that it was unlikely the arm could be reattached because of the nature of the injury.
Huijing suffered minor injuires.
