Sebastopol police arrest suspect in trail arson

Sebastopol police arrested a transient Friday in connection with two grass fires along a bicycle trail, the department said.

Patrick Jon Klimesh, 49, was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of arson and resisting a peace officer, Sgt. David Ginn said in a press release.

A Sebastopol officer responding to a 911 fire call about 5 p.m. on the Joe Rodota Bicycle Trail east of the city limit was advised by firefighters that a witness had seen someone who appeared to have thrown something into the fire.

Firefighters at the time were also extinguishing a second fire on the trail near Fulton Road which appeared to have started minutes earlier, Ginn said.

Witnesses said the man had headed west from the area, toward Sebastopol.

Klimesh matched the description given by witnesses and admitted starting both fires, Ginn said.
