Boy hurt in Mendocino County crash

An 8-year-old boy suffered major injuries in a Mendocino County car crash, authorities said on Sunday.

Julian Villalpando was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Oakland after he and his mother were extricated from their car by firefighters and a good Samaritan passerby, the CHP said.

The crash happened Saturday at about 1 p.m. on Highway 20 between Willits and Fort Bragg and involved only one vehicle.

Esmeralda Villalpando, 38, was driving a 2000 Acura Integra eastbound, traveling at about 45 mph, when she failed to negotiate a left curve, the CHP said.

The car went off the road and its right side hit into a redwood tree.

Esmeralda Villapando was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, the CHP said.

Both victims were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
