Stanford is idle Saturday, but not its head football coach, David Shaw. At a banquet at the Union City Crowne Plaza Hotel, Shaw will be inducted into the James Logan-Union City Athletic Hall of Fame.

Shaw, class of 1990, played football and basketball and ran track for the Colts.

Shaw found out last summer that he will be inducted.

"It's really cool," Shaw said. "My parents are coming. My brother is coming. A couple of former teammates are coming. I was taken aback. I wasn't expecting it."

The Shaw family moved to Union City from the Midwest.

"The reception we got when we moved here was unbelievable," Shaw said. "The way we were received, not knowing a soul out here. We felt at home right away."
