Out on bail from an arrest in October involving possession of a loaded gun, a Santa Rosa man was back in custody Monday after leading Santa Rosa officers on a brief car chase and neighborhood search, police said.

A Santa Rosa officer patrolling on Olive Street at about 5 p.m. Sunday spotted a car, which had been reported stolen last week from an east Santa Rosa neighborhood, said Sgt. John Cregan.

The officer tried to stop the driver of the 2007 Ford Focus. Instead of pulling over, the driver ran two stop signs before parking on South Davis Street and running.

Officers searched the neighborhood and found him hiding in a Barnett Street backyard, Cregan said.

Officers arrested Robert Scott Erickson, 32. They booked him into the Sonoma County Jail at about 5:30 p.m., suspected of possessing a stolen car, evading arrest in a car, resisting arrest and doing it while out of jail on bail.

He remained in custody Monday with bail set at $115,000.

Erickson was arrested Oct. 11, after an officer found he had a gun in a backpack. Erickson is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess guns.
