Day Under the Oaks Returns: After a five-year hiatus, Santa Rosa Junior College's spring fete, Day Under the Oaks, returns this Sunday, with close to 200 booths and all manner of fun for the entire family.

Highlights include new planetarium shows (every 45 minutes, beginning at 10:30 a.m.), a one-hour magic of chemistry show at 11 a.m., a dance performance at 12:45 p.m., public safety demonstrations and so much more, including good things to eat, hands-on activities and demonstrations.

For a full schedule, with locations for all events, visit santarosa.edu.

Admission to Day Under the Oaks is free and everything takes place at the main campus, located at 1501 Mendocino Ave.

Salsa Party! On Saturday, Nicholson Ranch hosts a Salsa Party, with dinner, dance lessons and live music in the courtyard, under the stars.

Things get started at 5:30 p.m. with mini ceviche tostadas and mini empanadas.

From 6 to 7:30 p.m., chef Rob Larman will preside over a buffet feast, with Painted Hill chuck steak that has been smoked, grilled and marinated in chiles and lime and smoked achiote chicken breast with four sauces alongside, chimichurri, mol? pico de gallo and salsa roja. There will also be black beans; a hominy, mango, avocado and tomato salad and warm corn and flour tortillas.

Nicholson Ranch chardonnay and pinot noir will flow throughout the feast.

Dessert features palettas — fruit popsicles — from Michoacan Ice Cream.
