Mike and Marilyn (Mellon) Daugherty celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner party arranged by their children at the Villa Restaurant in Santa Rosa.
The couple met in Eureka. Mike was an infantry company commander with the 1st Calvary Division during the Korean War.
He met Marilyn on a visit home. They corresponded while he was away, and on Valentine's Day he proposed. On June 21, 1953, the pair were married at Christ Episcopal Church in Eureka.
They relocated from Eureka to Santa Rosa in 1963. Mike retired in 1996 after 42 years as an insurance claims specialist and fraud investigator. Marilyn was a medical assistant and homemaker.
They have traveled throughout the United States, including trips to Hawaii; Wisconsin; Salt Lake City, Utah; Bismarck, N.D.; Portland, Ore.; Mount Rushmore; and the Badlands.
Family members include: daughter Darcy Armstrong and her husband, Phil, of Carlsbad; daughter Sally Daugherty of Santa Rosa; daughter Judy Throop and her husband, Roy, of Guerneville; and son Michael Daugherty and his wife, Linda, of Santa Rosa.
For Mike and Marilyn, the most important thing in their lives has been family. They have five grandchildren and enjoy spending time with them as much as possible.
