Emergency declared in Lake County in wind's aftermath

Lake County and City of Clearlake officials have declared a local emergency in the wake of powerful winds that ripped across the North Coast last week.

The move paves the way for an expedited cleanup process and could allow for officials to vie for state and federal emergency funds, according to county officials.

Approximately 25 percent of the homes surveyed in Nice sustained roof damage in the storm that knocked out power to thousands of residents over the weekend.

Officials are expected to have an updated damage assessment today. A final damage estimate is scheduled for Dec. 3.
