Geysers fire 90 percent contained

Firefighters have Sonoma County's wildfire nearly contained. The latest Cal Fire update showed the fire was 90 percent contained.

The fire Tuesday remained at 3,505 acres, said Cal Fire Capt. Scott McLean.

Known as the McCabe fire, it's been burning since before dawn Friday. Its location is east of Cloverdale, in the hilly Geysers geothermal area in the county's remote northeastern corner.

It was reported just after 2 a.m. Friday near the McCabe plant in the geothermal field. The fire spread fast, aided by gusty winds and dry brush and woodland, which were knocking down power lines and toppling trees and poles throughout the region.

State fire officials are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze, but they said several other smaller vegetation fires that began early Friday were believed to have been started by downed power lines.

Six firefighters have been injured or suffered medical issues during the McCabe fire, McLean said. All have been minor problems, including a twisted ankle and leg cramps.
