Santa Rosa firefighters' toy drive begins Sunday

Santa Rosa firefighters kick off their annual holiday toy drive Sunday with a pancake breakfast and toy collection at the Veterans Memorial Building.

The event, hosted by the Santa Rosa Firefighters Local 1401, takes place from 8 p.m. to 11 a.m.

Admission is $5 or the donation of a new unwrapped toy. Pancakes and all the extras will be served. Kids are welcome and Santa has been known to make an appearance.

The firefighters' Toys for Kids Foundation distributes toys to more than 12,000 needy children by working with organizations such as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Giving Tree, the YWCA Women's Shelter and numerous shelters and schools.

Beginning Monday, barrels for the collection of new, unwrapped toys for children up to 18 will be in front of all Santa Rosa and Rincon Valley fire stations and the Santa Rosa Plaza.
