A record 86 Sonoma County restaurants are participating Thursday in an annual fund-raiser seeking $130,000 to help feed local residents affected by AIDS or HIV.
Participating establishments have agreed to donate 25 percent of their sales — and in a few cases 50 percent — to Forestville-based Food for Thought, which for 25 years has provided groceries and meals to those affected by the immune deficiency syndrome.
The agency distributed about 330,000 meals in 2012 thanks to its largest annual fund-raiser, Dine Out for Life, spokeswoman Beth Wolfer said. Five thousand diners participated last year, she said.
Part of a nationwide effort to raise money for AIDS-related service agencies in 63 U.S. cities and two in Canada, this is the 12th year Food for Thought has participated, she said.
Restaurants taking part are located around Sonoma County. They represent all price ranges and offer breakfast, lunch and/or dinner.
