A woman was pushed to the ground and her purse stolen Sunday evening in a strong-armed robbery in a residential neighborhood of west Petaluma.

The robbery occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the 600 block of Sixth Street, Petaluma police reported.

The robber, described as a male approximately 18 to 20 years of age and wearing a black sweatshirt, fled the area in a green compact auto.

The woman said she didn't recognize the robber but the man had been loitering in the area before the robbery.

The woman wasn't injured.
