A Thursday night crash between an SUV and a dirt bike rider sent the rider to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries, the CHP said Friday.
The crash took place at around 6 p.m. in Fort Bragg, shortly after a CHP officer attempted to stop the dirt bike rider, Travis Moore, 23, of Fort Bragg, for a registration violation.
Moore did not stop, said Ukiah-based CHP Officer Steve Krul. In fact, Moore's driving became so reckless that the officer decided to end the chase in the interest of public safety.
Shortly after that, the crash occurred on Corry Street, as Moore was headed north at an unknown speed and another driver, in a Honday CR-V, was turning north on Corry from Alder Street. Officers are investigating the cause of the crash and which vehicle ran into the other.
The driver of the Honda, whose name the CHP could not provide Friday afternoon, was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released, Krul said. But Moore, who was first taken to Mendocino Coast Hospital, had to be flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for major injuries he sustained in the crash.
No additional details on Moore's condition were available Friday.
