Three Ukiah schools were locked down Monday after police received report of a man with a rifle in a parking lot behind Saint Mary of the Angels School on South Dora Street, Ukiah police said.
Officers and Mendocino County sheriff's deputies flooded the area but found no sign of the man, Ukiah Police Chief Chris Dewey said.
The report came in at 2:02 p.m. The man was described as white, 5-foot-11 and wearing a dark T-shirt and green pants and carrying a rifle in the church parking lot behind the school, police said.
In addition to St. Mary's, Nokomis and Yokayo elementary schools were put on lockdown until about 2:40 p.m.
Ukiah and CHP officers as well as deputies remained in the area while students were still on campus, Dewey said.
