Santa Rosa police investigate late-night shooting

Santa Rosa police are investigating what officers believe was a gang shooting on Olive Street late Friday.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., police officers responded to the 500 block of Olive Street near the intersection of highways 101 and 12 after an area resident called 911 to report hearing gunshots.

Investigators suspect that five or six juvenile males shouted gang challenges and confronted two victims before hitting one of the victims with a blunt object. A second suspect reportedly fired multiple shots from a handgun which missed the victims, but struck an unoccupied vehicle and a fence.

The victims were able to flee on foot.

The suspects, all Latino youth, left the area in a dark sports utility vehicle, according to police.

The incident is believed to be gang related.

The Santa Rosa Police Department is encouraging anyone who witnessed the shooting to call 543-3670.
