Petaluma police seek help in identifying suspected credit card thief

Petaluma police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who is suspected of stealing a credit card and trying to buy $1,000 worth of goods at a grocery store shortly thereafter.

Police received a call on Dec. 7 from the victim, who had been notified by his bank that someone was trying to make a $1,000 purchase at Safeway in Petaluma.

The man, who was at Adobe Creek Golf Course, went to his vehicle and discovered his wallet had been stolen, Lt. Tim Lyons said. Video surveillance from Safeway shows a man trying to use the stolen card.

He is described as white, 25 years old, with a small goatee. He was wearing a dark grey beanie with a small brim and light grey sweatshirt.

Police have two images of the man from surveillance video.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call 707-778-4372.
