Monday is a Spare the Air day around the Bay Area, so burning of wood logs and other solid fuels is prohibited unless there is no alternate heating source.

Lingering cold weather had created stagnant atmosperic conditions expected to trap air pollution at human levels, including soot and microscopic particulates resulting from fires, air quality officials say.

It's the 13th Spare the Air day since the winter season started Nov. 1.
