Fire destroyed a chicken coop near Guerneville Saturday night, killing the chickens inside it.

Firefighters were called to the Armstrong Woods Road address at about 11:40 p.m. by reports of a recreational vehicle fire.

They arrived to find the chicken coop ablaze, said Mark Haas, acting captain of the Russian River Fire District.

It was near an RV in a hotel parking lot, he said.

"It was pretty well established by the time we got there," Haas said.

Up to 10 chickens were inside, he said.

Some might have escaped, said Chief Steve Baxman of Monte Rio fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation but did not seem suspicious, Haas said.
