The California Highway Patrol will have extra officers on patrol on area roads and highways for Christmas, starting 6 p.m. Tuesday and running through the early hours of Thursday.
This is on top of already heightened DUI patrols and checkpoints by area agencies throughout December.
"We want everybody to have a good time, but we also want everyone to be responsible," said CHP Officer Steve Fricke.
Fricke also warned that freeway HOV lane restrictions will remain in place on Christmas Day because it falls on a regular weekday. The HOV rules do not provide for a mid-week holiday exemption.
