A Petaluma man struck three parked cars, smashed through a low, brick retaining wall and crashed into an apartment parking structure before he was arrested for suspected drunken driving on Wednesday night, authorities said.
Police said Elijah Namajanji, 32, tried to run from the 11:46 p.m. crash on F Street near Sixth Street. But he was chased down by the owner of one of the cars and another man before a police officer intercepted him on the street, Sgt. Ed Crosby said.
Namajanji's license already was suspended because of a previous drunken driving offense when he was arrested a second time Wednesday for suspected DUI, hit and run and driving with a suspended licesne, police siad.
Namajanji was being held at the Sonoma County Jail early Thursday, with bail of $5,000, jail personnel said.
Crosby said structural damage related to the incident was primarily limited to the retraining wall, which appeared to serve a cosmetic purpose. It was destroyed, he said.
