The U.S. Supreme Court signaled Tuesday it will issue its ruling on Proposition 8, the 2008 initiative that banned same-sex marriage in California, on Wednesday.

Also coming Wednesday, when all remaining opinions from the court's term will be issued, is the decision on the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which bars same-sex married couples from receiving federal benefits.

The Court will begin announcing decisions at 7 a.m. PST.

Gay rights groups are planning to hold rallies across California on Wednesday night, including one in Eureka at the county courthouse and one in San Francisco's Castro District.
