Homeless man found dead near Fort Bragg hotel

Fort Bragg police said Friday they are investigating the death of a 29-year-old homeless man whose body was discovered under the North Cliff Hotel.

Sgt. Brandon Lee said the man had been sleeping under the hotel with his girlfriend Wednesday night. She awoke Thursday morning to find her boyfriend unresponsive and not breathing, Lee said.

Police were summoned to an access road near the hotel to investigate a report of a fight between a man and woman. Officers arrived to find a man comforting a hysterical woman over the loss of her boyfriend, Lee said.

The victim's name was being withheld by police pending notification of next of kin, Lee said.
