An afternoon at VJB Vineyards & Cellars in Kenwood transports you to Italy and the cobbled courtyards of a Tuscan piazza. Plan to spend a few hours here, meandering through the tasting room, the Italian marketplace and deli, the pizzeria and gelateria. On weekends, you may be serenaded by an opera singer as you dig into your panini and take a sip of sangiovese. The winery at 60 Shaw Ave. is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Over in Calistoga, the Castello di Amorosa looks and feels like an authentic European castle, even though it was built just six years ago.
To really get that historic feel, hop aboard a Napa Valley Wine Train that stops in St. Helena, then take a guided tour and tasting at the castle.
The gentle swaying of the Pullman cars will carry you back in time as you slow down and enjoy a three-course lunch.
