Santa Rosa hits 102 degrees; no respite until at least Tuesday

It was the hottest day of the year in Santa Rosa on Saturday when the mercury hit 102 degrees.

The North Coast, along with much of the Southwest, continued to bake in a heat wave that is not predicted to ease until Tuesday, or possibly Wednesday.

Saturday's 102 degrees was just shy of the record 103 for the same date in Santa Rosa, set in 1934.

The hot spots Saturday were Healdsburg and Cazadero at 105.

There were reports Saturday afternoon of at least two possible heat stroke victims — in Healdsburg and Sonoma Valley.

An excessive heat warning remained in effect for the the Bay Area. Sonoma County Health officials advised even those who are not physically active to drink plenty of cool fluids.

They also advised never to leave children unattended in a vehicle, since temperatures can quickly become deadly, even with a window partially rolled down.
