Motorcyclist remains hospitalized after Lake County crash

An East Bay man remained hospitalized Tuesday in critical condition after smashing his motorcycle into a van in a Lake County crash.

Darren Deberry, 51, of Oakley was riding his motorcycle Sunday at 4:45 p.m. when he hit the back of a van stopped to make a turn, the CHP reported.

Van driver Varga Trejo, 37, of Middletown was transporting six kids. He was stopped to turn from Highway 29 to Bradford Road when he saw the motorcycle coming up to fast to stop, the CHP said.

Trejo moved forward to try and offer more space for the rider to stop but the bike his the back of the van.

Deberry was thrown from his 2000 Harley Davidson and landed in the road.

He was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

No one in the van was hurt.

Alcohol is not expected to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
