Following the opening of Whole Foods, Coddingtown mall plans next year to renovate its entrances on Guerneville Road and Cleveland Avenue.

Plans also include painting and other work to "freshen up the north side" near the new natural foods market, Laura Kozup, mall manager for Simon Property Group, said Wednesday.

Other changes will include a new children's play area and a refurbished revolving Coddingtown Mall sign.

Kozup declined to release an estimated price for the renovations. The work is scheduled to begin in early 2011.

The mall is jointly owned by the Indianapolis-based Simon and Codding Enterprises of Rohnert Park.

In recent years, Coddingtown has suffered from the closure of anchor tenant Gottschalks and the loss of smaller retailers. But Simon and Codding officials have pointed to the opening of Whole Foods as a key step forward.

Kozup said she had no news to release about efforts to lease the former Gottschalks' space, but said "by doing the renovation, it always brings more interest in the center."
