A 17-year-old high school student was arrested Thursday for selling marijuana near school grounds, Santa Rosa police reported.
Calls poured in to police at about 7 a.m. from people who saw students who appeared to be smoking cigarettes or joints on Mendocino Avenue near Santa Rosa High School, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said. The teens were not students at Santa Rosa High.
Plainclothes officers spotted the students and watched a hand-to-hand sale of marijuana between two boys in a parking lot, she said.
Officers searched the boys and found multiple packages of pot, apparently for sale, on the 17-year-old. They found more of the drug and packaging materials during a search of the boy's home, Banayat said. He was booked into the juvenile detention center.
A 16-year-old boy seen buying the pot was cited on suspicion of marijuana possession and released to his parents, police said.
