The commercial season for Dungeness crab opens next week for Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte counties, according to the state Department of Fish and Game.
The decision to open the season Wednesday followed quality testing conducted in California, Oregon and Washington between Oct. 27 and Nov. 20 that showed the amount of the meat in the crab met state standards.
Also on Dec. 1, the season will open in Oregon and Washington to Klipsan Beach, Wash.
The season opened off the Sonoma County coast two weeks ago, with commercial fishermen reporting large catches and above-normal crab sizes.
