A young Petaluma man who crashed a car into a wall and tree and nearly hit a home, is in custody, suspected of drunken driving, police reported Monday.
The crash was at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, on North McDowell Boulevard in east Petaluma.
Driver Sumeet Singh Mandal, 18, lost control of his car and ran off of North McDowell, hitting the wall and tree near Roundwalk Circle.
The damaged 2008 Scion stopped about 20 feet from an occupied home, said Officer Nicholas McGowan.
There were four people riding with the driver. Three of them ran before fire crews and police arrived.
A 19-year-old passenger and the driver were taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital and were treated for minor injuries. The 19-year-old was released and the driver was arrested.
Officers found an open bottle of alcohol in the car, McGowan said.
A 17-year-old who?d also been in the crash showed up later at the hospital. He was treated for moderate injuries and released.
Mandal was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving and was taken to Sonoma County Jail. His bail was set at $30,000.
