Bookham Inc., which develops thin-film optical technology in Santa Rosa, got a new name Tuesday following its merger with Avanex Corp.
The company is now called Oclaro, combining the words ?optical? and ?clarity.? Oclaro will trade on the Nasdaq exchange under the symbol OCLR.
The San Jose-based company makes components for fiber optic telecommunications and other markets. It has about 60 employees at its location in Santa Rosa.
There are no changes planned in Santa Rosa, but the facility could benefit from new markets created by the merger with Fremont-based Avanex, said spokesman Jim Fanucchi.
Bookham and Avanex completed their merger Monday, an all-stock transaction that gives Avanex shareholders about 47 percent of the new company. The deal was valued at $35 million.
Bookham acquired the Santa Rosa unit in 2003 from local startup Cierra Photonics for about $3.7 million in stock.
